Rachel McAdams Offered True Detective Role

The shape of True Detective’s second season is beginning to come into focus. Controversial choices, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are officially on board to star in the show’s new episodes and from the sounds of it, Rachel McAdams is close to joining them.

According to Variety, McAdams, who has been rumoured for a role almost as long as Farrell, Vaughn and the still-unconfirmed-but-likely-close Taylor Kitsch, has been offered the third lead in the show, but HBO has yet to make an official announcement. That should be coming shortly assuming the deal is made.

With Nic Pizzolatto once again writing and overseeing the series and Justin Lin hired to direct the first two episodes, the new season is set in California locales and sees Farrell as Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. The season will run as eight hour-long episodes and is scheduled to start shooting this autumn.

McAdams and Kitsch – if they both sign on – are set to be police officers working alongside Farrell. The actress is back on our screens currently in A Most Wanted Man and is shooting boxing drama Southpaw.

Wicked the Movie with Lea Michele & Harry Styles?

It’s finally happening… Wicked the musical is being made into a movie and the front runners are Lea Michele and Harry Styles!

Lea Michele a is a dead ringer for the role of Elphaba originally played by Idina Menzel on stage (she even played her mother on Glee) and Harry Styles has been offered the part of Elphaba’s love interest Fiyero.

“Moviemakers see him as a new Zac Efron and think he would be a perfect casting for a movie musical.” A source told The Sun. However, internet buzz isn’t feeling Harry on this one. Most are actually rooting for Zac Efron instead!

Who do you think should be cast in Wicked the movie?

He’ll have a picture he can see.”

The film itself is set to arrive on August 14, 2015.

Remembering The NeverEnding Story

We were absolutely mesmerized by The NeverEnding Story as children, so imagine our excitement when we found these awesome handmade leather iPad covers inspired by the film ! BUY NOW

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the The NeverEnding Story was released in 1984 and starred a talented young cast: Noah Hathaway as Atreyu, Barret Oliver as Bastian, and Tami Stronach as the Empress. Shot largely in Germany during one of their hottest summers in decades, the story revolves mainly around these three characters.

Bastian is a young boy coping with his mom’s death. On his way to school one day, he’s chased by bullies and ducks into a book shop, where he happens upon a book with a strange symbol on the cover. The shop owner warns him that it’s no ordinary book; unlike other stories where you leave the action as soon as you stop reading, this one is not as easy to walk away from.

The NeverEnding Story is bursting with captivating characters following Atreyu throughout his journey, with the added dimension of good versus evil into the storyline. Looking back it was a promise of something magical being just on the horizon that appealed to me too though, and the idea that even a regular kid could do amazing things.

I finally watched the film again last night and I was surprised by how well it holds up. True, you have to look past some extremely…emphatic acting, and Falkor is slightly creepy now that I’m older, but most importantly, watching it now gave me a completely different experience, not just an exercise in nostalgia.

The Auryn is still the coolest piece of fantasy jewelry ever. It doesn’t need to be cast into a volcano, it won’t screw up any time streams, and it doesn’t require a piece of your soul. It simply functions as an elegant symbol of eternal return and interconnections, and occasionally mystically guides you to the Childlike Empress. No big deal.

So what are the actors doing 30 years on?

Barret Oliver’s acting career didn’t last too long after The Neverending Story, but he didn’t exactly fade into obscurity, either.  He has a few roles in Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, D.A.R.Y.L., and Cocoon but doesn’t have an acting credit to his name since 1989.

But there’s more to life than acting, and Oliver picked up photography both as a hobby and a professional endeavor.  Oliver now teaches photography in Los Angeles and released a book on photography called A History Of The Woodburytype.

After playing Atreyu – pretty much the coolest little kid role in the history of cinema Noah Hathaway had some minor television appearances before landing the starring roll in the 1986 movie Troll.  He then went quiet in Hollwood and got his black belts in Tang Soo Do and Shotokan Karate in addition to trying to set up his own chopper shop on the west coast.

Appearing in The Neverending Story was the first and last acting role for Tami Stronach.  It turns out that Tami is really a dancer by trade and has been dancing since she was a child.  In 1996, she joined the U.S. based Israeli dance troupe the Neta Dance Company, and she now has her own dance company in Brooklyn.

Thanks to GeekifyInc you can own a small part of this 80’s classic as they have created leather cases for iPads, Tablets and eReaders. This beautiful cover is inspired by the mysterious book Bastian reads in the delightfully creepy and cobwebby attic.
